The Legal Nurse plays a critical role in evaluating medical malpractice claims, analyzing medical records, researching applicable standards of care, coordinating with expert witnesses, and supporting litigation strategy from case intake through trial.
Ideally, the Legal Nurse is a registered nurse with a strong clinical background, excellent analytical and communication skills, and experience in legal or medical-legal environments. This is a dynamic role requiring collaboration with attorneys, clients, and medical experts to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.
Responsibilities:
Review, organize, and summarize voluminous medical records to identify potential deviations from the applicable standards of care.
Prepare concise and comprehensive medical chronologies, timelines, and summaries.
Work closely with attorneys to evaluate the merits of potential claims and develop theories of liability.
Research and identify qualified medical experts in various specialties.
Conduct initial outreach, vetting, and interviewing expert witnesses.
Assist in preparing experts for deposition and trial, including providing relevant medical literature and records.
Translate complex medical information for legal team and clients.
Assist in drafting questions for depositions and trial examinations of medical witnesses.
Support discovery responses and interrogatories with medical input.
Attend depositions, mediations, and trials as needed.
Conduct medical and scientific research related to ongoing litigation.

Requirements
Job Requirements:
Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in acute care, ICU, emergency, or another high-liability specialty.
Prior experience in medical malpractice litigation or as a legal nurse consultant preferred.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, laboratory testing and pharmacology.
Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple complex cases simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
